Hilton Head Adventure!!

I left school Wednesday at 11:30 to venture out on a short vacation.  I picked Thomas up at GE and traveled toward HH…or we thought we were.  We sort of didn’t listen to TOMTOM.  We finally decided to find I-95 S and followed a two lane road with construction for about 20 miles before heading on 95.  Of course I was driving and Thomas was huffing and puffing because I could not go any faster!  Before getting on 95 He took over the driving.  Any time lost was quickly made up.

We arrived to Hilton Head in time to go out to eat with Becky and Bill.  They had already picked out the eating location.  Bill knows I can’t make decisions well.  We went to Woody’s. A place where the locals eat.  It was on a bay by a marina.  We were seated outside and enjoyed the fresh night air as we were eating.  Around the restaurant, there were many little shops to walk through. No purchases were made…we might find better deals at a different  location.october 125 october 129

The next morning after eating at Becky’s Breakfast Bar we went Bike riding.  It was fun!! There were trails to follow,we just had to watch out for walkers, other bikers and alligators!  After the bike ride we had to prepare for out Tee Time at Eagle’s Point. Becky and Thomas played and Bill and I served as Caddies.  Thomas played from the “Back Tips”…where the pro’s play from!  We had a great time together!

With Golf still on the agenda, we traveled to Harbor Town Golf Resort…not to play…just to shop!  This course is where the BIG GUYS play the Heritage Golf Classic.  Thomas was able to practice putting on the practice greens.  We also walked over to the 18th green.  The area was Beautiful!

While in the Southern Pines area…a toll area…and after walking around the resort shops…we decided to eat at the Salty Dog Cafe.  This is a tourist must while in Hilton Head!october 153 october 150 october 151

Take That! Tammie

So, today we did not have school because of the rain and flooding in the local area.  I decided I was not going to be lazy all day so I got up and did what house work I HAD to do, which was very little. After that I went into my craft room and pondered…and pondered some more.  Finally I decided on making some cards.   Of course I got started and didn’t have a tape runner that would work.  Virginia had one.  It took me a hour to go pick it up because we had to talk about all the rain!

I finally got to work and finished a few cards.  During the card making all I could think about was potato soup. I took a break from crafting to start the soup.

In the mean time Quincy got out of bed and wanted to go to Brad’s in Chinquapin.  I told him there was not way for Brad to get to Beulaville because of all the road closings.  After Thomas got home from work he and Quincy ventured out to try to meet Brad at the creek bridge…no luck….But Brad had made it to Beulaville by the way of Lyman and a turn here and a turn there until he got to town.

Amanda and her kids came around four and therefore I was sidetracked from crafting.  But that is OK because playing and hold grandkids is much better than crafting.

I did get back and finish a few more cards.  Some of them are posted below, along with others.

In the mean time I knew Tammie had worked all day and probably posted new cards and things on her craft blog….I was right…so Tammie I did something today too!!!!

Fall Begins

The days are getting shorter and hopefully cooler soon. I am staying busy trying to stay caught up with school work. When you think you are about there, something else gets placed on your plate.

Quincy is busy with football and that means Thursday nights we go watch the JV Panthers play. As of now they are 4-0. That would be four wins and no losses. Yeah!!!! Being busy with football must mean slowing down in school work. On the way home from East Duplin last night after the game Quincy informed us he had a "CELL" project due the next day. It was a cooking project, and the grocery store was closed and I knew I had no eggs. I did remember that I had cookie dough in the frezer from last year's cookie sale. Needless to say, he made a giant cookie and all the cell parts to place on top. Lucky for him, his mom used to dabble in cake decorating and I still had the items he needed to decorate the cell parts. It was supposed to be eatable....but I would not of eat it...but you know hungry teenagers!

Since my last post Thomas has had a birthday. The big 5o!!!! Jessica and Adam and Quincy came over for a cookout!! We had fun celebrating together. Justin, amie, and Amanda and kids were not able to come. Sure did miss them.

School work has occupied my free time and I have not been able to enjoy crafting and card making. I will try to work some time in shortly...I hope!

Untill next time.....Enjoy life and take care!

School Begins!

I can’t believe that summer is over.  That means, to me, an end to doing whatever I want and whenever I want to do it.  This summer has been a blast!! I have enjoyed spending time with Amanda, Carter, and Kensington.  I have spent some quality time on the coast with family members. Traveled with other family members. Been lazy and done nothing while with even other family members. I just go with the flow and do whatever!

Since school has to begin, I guess I will get my mind focused on student learning, which means first getting my classroom ready.  That means spending money!  Thanks Thomas for all the donations you make to public education here in Duplin County.

I am excited to continue learning and practicing Reader’s Workshop in my classroom with my students. I know that students grow and thrive in a workshop method of teaching.  Sure hope the students this year appreciate being able to read and respond to their choice of reading materials.

Since summer has to come to an end, I am thankful for all the memories made. I am looking forward to making more memories, not only with the students this year, but also, with my work family.

Scout Camp

So I have been gone all last week and Thomas and Quincy were to be gathering up Quincy’s things he would need for camp.  When I returned home I ask Thomas if things were ready and he said Quincy said he had it all gathered up.  I saw that he had.  It was all on the stairs unfolded and strung up and down the stairs.  I guess they have a different definition than me.  Friday I did make sure that Quincy had all that he needed.  He said he needed more underwear and socks, but I don’t know why…he always brings back several clean pairs….he is only REQUIRED to take one shower and I think that is all he does. Brother Phil makes them shower before he will allow then to ride home in his car!  Do you  blame him?

We dropped Quincy off in Wilmington.  Gabe and Brennen are going this year.  It is Brennen’s first year.  When I was telling Brennen’s mom how often the boys shower and change she almost threw up.  She had packed him a towel for everyday!  I probably did Quincy’s first year too. I will let you know how much of his things I throw away when he returns.  Yes, I throw away the one pair of socks and one pair of underwear he wears ALL week!

Thomas and I are empty nesters this week!!!  I wonder what we will get into?

Quincy ,The Prepared Scout!

So, Quincy has been away from home right much since school has gotten out.  He has stayed a week with Amanda.  He has spent several nights with “The Hollingsworth’s” at Pin Hook and at the Beach.Needless to say he doesn’t keep up with his belongings very well.  So far he has lost his wallet with his permit in it, and his Rainbows.  This Wednesday night at church they were having s Scout advancement night. Quincy convinced his dad to let him stay at the beach and Mom would bring him his scout shirt to him.  Well,  His scout shirt is missing too.  I looked in every closet in our house and in his closet…under everything that had been thrown in it every time he has cleaned his room this year. His shirt was nowhere to be found.  June, Travis’ mom felt sorry for him  and she ran home and got Travis’ shirt for Quincy to wear during the ceremony.

Quincy received all the merit badges he had earned in the last two years.  He also made first class scout rank.  I am very proud of his hard work and thank all the people, especially Nick for helping him achieve all that he has so far in scouting.

Quincy leaves next week to go to Scout camp so I went to Wilmington and purchased a new shirt for him and Grannie Frances sewed all the patches on the shirt and also on the badge sash.  Thanks Grannie!!! Let’s see  how long we keep up with this shirt.

Quincy , keep up the good work in scouts….but work on keeping up with your things!

Cards and Such

So, this week I have spent two days with Amanda and her kids.  I also took one day and did some much needed visiting with some families from my church.  As always, I am reluctant to go, but enjoy visiting when I get out and about.   I stopped by the Amish store and purchased some homemade bread to take to each household.  I had not planned on visiting Nadine on this route, but realized I was going by her house , so I decided to stop.  She was inside cooling off from working in the garden.  Nadine is such an inspiration to me with all that she does and the attitude in which she does it.  When I gave her the bread she was excited…she had used her last bread at breakfast time. Now she would not have to get her 90+ mother out and go to the grocery store in 100* plus weather.   But she would have if I had not stopped by!  So glad I listened to the prompting on this day.  While visiting Dot and Jeff I got to meet some of their grandchildren who have lived in Germany since birth, but now live in Florida. I always enjoy hearing from Jeff and all that he has going on.  Another family who inspires me!  Shirley was recovering from foot surgery.  Such a treat to visit with her and Thereon.  She loves her children and grandchildren so much!! You can tell by the stories she tells on them.

While at Amanda’s she volunteered me to keep another two year old boy for the girls to go out for lunch.  Of course I was willing, especially since it meant Amanda was getting some Adult Conversation with some friends.    Levi and Carter had a good play date!

Filling in my time I have also prepared a Relief Society lesson and made handouts to go with the lesson and made more cards to send off to Cards for Soldiers.

Some of the samples are posted below.
